R-Mode Baltic Project Conference

The project R-Mode Baltic will hold its final conference as an online event on May 18, 2021.

R-Mode: providing resilient navigation in the Baltic Sea

Today’s solely dependence on satellite navigation systems in the maritime domain lacks of resilient position, navigation and time information. The gap towards resilient navigation has been identified by the IMO as a result of the e-navigation strategy and its risk control option analysis. The development of alternatives to satellite navigation systems are of utmost importance. The R-Mode Baltic Project team contributes to resilient navigation by the development and installation of a Ranging-Mode (R-Mode) testbed in the Southern Baltic Sea. The R-Mode technology itself is a promising new approach that implements a terrestrial navigation system within already existing maritime radio infrastructure.

During the conference you will be guided through the entire R-Mode Baltic Project achievements as well as results and conclusions. You will get an insight into the deployed R-Mode technology that is currently in operation at eight maritime radio beacon transmitter sites and three VDES base station sites. We will present the latest R-Mode equipment developments and emphasis that the R-Mode technology provides the potential to serve the mariner as a backup and alternative system for resilient coastal navigation.
